Requirements

The ARC

The ARC (Alien Resident Certificate) or Resident Visa is necessary for legal employment in Taiwan. Taiwan requires that a potential candidate satisfy specific criteria. Officially, a resident visa is granted to any applicant from overseas that satisfies the following:

  • Holds a passport from one of the following countries: USA, UK, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, Australia.
  • Agrees to at least a one-year contract.
  • Possesses a college degree from a four-year institution (a bachelor's degree, which would be a 3-year course in the UK).
  • Fulfills a government approved medical exam. Many hospitals all over Taiwan offer this service, and it costs about NT$1000.

Experience and Qualifications

Ideally, candidates will also have teaching experience, and/or a teaching qualification, such as a TEFL certificate. Kid Castle will also consider the personality of the candidate; teaching in Taiwan requires the utmost from an individual in terms of his or her patience, enthusiasm, and sense of humor.

The ARC process takes at least a month to complete. Kid Castle has obtained the resident visa for countless teachers in the past and we are familiar with the process. We will need original copies of your qualifications, and sometimes transcripts are requested for submission.
